There will be times when it is most effective to rely on your vision to spot fish and cast to them.  In clear water situations it is often advantageous to locate and target individual fish. Sight fishing can also be effective in targeting the biggest fish. Small fish are great, but we are all after the big one.

You will need a good pair of polarized sunglasses such as Costa Del Mar 580 Triple Tail Sunglasses or Oakley Straight Jacket Sunglasses for sight fishing. These are two good brands for any sight fisherman.

When you are casting to particular fish, don't cast right on top of it. If you are fly fishing, cast a few feet above the fish and let your fly drift down past its nose. Or if you are spin fishing a lake, cast past a fish and then drag your lure right past it. You don't want to cast directly on top of a fish or else there is a good chance that you will spook it as your lure hits the water.

Note if the fish is feeding on the surface or on the bottom and adjust your presentation accordingly. You want to present your lure right in the fish's feeding zone. Accurate casting is crucial when sight fishing. If you are fishing blindly than most of the time your accuracy isn't so crucial; however, in sight fishing, there is little room for error.
